First Day!

So my first day:

I woke up and had breakfast and got ready in my room for my 11:00am (much later than everyone else) class. Communications 1A: Media Technologies, People, and Society. About 100 people in the class. Professor Nass is a funny jewish professor from New Jersey with a lot of character. Today was mainly introductions.

I had lunch and went to the bookstore to get a few books before going to CS 106A (get prepared if you thought 100 was a lot in one class) If you are someone who complains about budget cuts making classes too big, apparently things don't get better for the private, top-notch universities when 95% of their students take a single class, CS 106A: Programming Methodology. 660 students enrolled in the class. The biggest lecture hall on campus seats 500. That means 160 students have to sit in a near by room (that seats 200, so 40 empty seats for whoever wants to join the class) and have the lecture video streamed into the room. This also means that they don't get the candy that Mehran (Professor Sahami but he doesn't like to be called that) throws out (or sling shots out) each time a question is asked or just randomly. Mehran is full of character and 100% the reason I am taking the class this quarter and 30% the reason to take the class at all :)

I furiously biked to my yoga class afterwards. I am taking the class with Kaya but at this point that is the only reason I am taking the class. I didn't really enjoy the teacher and the class moved very slowly for me. So now I am just doing yoga in my room. Kaya and I have also made a pact that she is going to teach me how to run and I will teach her yoga. Woo hoo! :)

We watched the most recent episode of How I Met Your Mother and suited up for the occasion.

We also attended a Cardinal Nights Carnival and got free food (burritos, sliders, and chips) and cupcakes!

Meanwhile, everyone else back at the dorm was enjoying the end of the dry weekend here at Stanford :)
