Barn Dance, Bonfire, and Elephant Seal

Saturday night Sarah, Triple, Orie, I went to a Barn Dance. It was an hour away from campus near Half Moon Bay. There was a live band and a caller who taught everyone square dances. We had a wonderful time! Afterwards, the Stanford students went to the beach and built this bonfire.

FIRE! So beautiful.

It is really interesting because we made the bonfire out of cardboard and these crates that you can pick up from behind the dining halls. So similar and yet so different from kindling and firewood.

There was this elephant seal on the beach when we showed up. A giant, very large, sleeping elephant seal sleeping in the corner, maybe 100 feet from where we were standing. People kept getting really close to it, wanting to take pictures, and the fire was pretty hot so it woke up a couple of times, croaked at us, and went back to sleep. A couple of times we were pretty freaked out because it was moving towards us. People were not being extremely intelligent, typical college Stanford students.

Because we were so intrigued by the seal, we made a song, it goes something like this:

You're my elephant seal
Please don't make me a meal
I want to hug you
That's all I want to do

You're so blubbery and fat
You look like my front door mat
Sorry if we disturbed you
In return we'll write a Haiku

Your grunts frighten me
They make me want to pee
Oh no, you're getting near
Let us get out of here.

Hope you enjoyed :)
